Shauna Carey

Shauna Carey is a strategist and social impact advisor with 20 years of experience at the intersection of storytelling and social justice.
Shauna spent more than a decade at IDEO.org, a nonprofit design and innovation studio where she held a variety of leadership roles, including CEO. At IDEO, Shauna helped mission-driven organizations develop impactful strategies, innovative programs, and effective advocacy campaigns. Working with a diverse range of partners that includes governments, grassroots organizations, and UN institutions, Shauna has led projects and initiatives focused on advancing refugee rights, health equity, justice reform and more.
Previously, Shauna spent ten years working to expand access to education and health care at organizations like Room to Read and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. She also helped launch and grow a number of social impact startups.
Shauna’s work has been featured at the Aspen Ideas Festival, Skoll World Forum, and Social Innovation Summit as well as in The Guardian, Fast Company, and the Stanford Social Innovation Review.
A social scientist by training, writer by trade, and organizer at heart, Shauna holds a degree in Linguistics with a minor in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
