Rosavida Viri-Cruz
LSFN Legal fellow
Rosavida Viri-Cruz (she/they) is the Legal Services Funders Network’s (LSFN) Legal Fellow at For The People, where they support prosecutors in the resentencing process and contribute to building systems that prioritize accountability, rehabilitation, and successful reentry.
Rosavida came to this role inspired by For The People’s mission to forge new pathways to justice. Their training at the University of San Francisco (USF) School of Law’s Racial Justice Clinic shaped much of their commitment to this work, where they evaluated California Racial Justice Act petitions and assisted in wrongful conviction cases.
Prior to For The People, Rosavida interned at the Alameda County District Attorney’s Public Accountability Unit, investigating in-custody deaths and officer-involved shootings. They also researched and drafted policy reforms at the San Francisco (SF) Department of Police Accountability and prepared trial materials at the SF District Attorney’s Office.
Before pursuing law, Rosavida served as a public health dietitian for San Mateo County, taught dietetics courses at SF State University, and worked as a pizzaiola and emergency medical technician.
Rosavida earned their Juris Doctor from USF School of Law and holds both a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from SF State University. In their free time, they enjoy shark tooth hunting with their kids, rock climbing with their spouse, and taking long walks around grocery stores with a digital thermometer to ensure compliance with food safety regulations. They live in the Bay Area with their wife, two children, one dog, and five hermit crabs.
