Christina Svenson

Communications Manager

Christina Svenson is the Communications Manager at For The People, where she leads public relations to expand recognition and understanding of Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing across the country.

Prior to For The People, Christina was a Senior Account Executive at a boutique Bay Area communications agency, SutherlandGold. There, she developed brand messaging, positioning, and media strategy for organizations across a range of industries—from healthcare to consumer brands. At SutherlandGold, Christina helped sustain legacy brands and launch new companies, including the country’s first carless neighborhood, Culdesac.

Previously, Christina worked at the nonprofit Girls Inc., developing curriculum and leading programs for third-grade girls with a focus on gender, race, literacy, and restorative justice. There, she saw the deep harm that incarceration caused Oakland families. Her work at Girls Inc. ignited the spark to actively advocate for changes across the criminal justice system.

Christina is from Panama City, Panama. She is also a writer and poet, with two published books of poetry as well as writing in Slate, Insider, Vice, among others. She holds a  B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and lives in Oakland, CA with her dog Mimi.
