Molly McDermott

Molly McDermott is the Paralegal at For The People, where she works closely with the legal team to support incarcerated people and their communities throughout the resentencing process.

Previously, she spent four years at a top-rated criminal defense law firm in Oakland, California, supporting the Managing Attorney with more than 80 cases, including the full felony caseload. Her responsibilities included drafting motions and preparing mitigation packets.

Earlier in her career, Molly interned at a Bay Area law center focused on advocacy for low-income communities, where she assisted unhoused community members in filing claims as part of a class action lawsuit. She has also volunteered in correctional facilities with a nonprofit that provides in-prison training programs.

Molly holds a BFA in Painting from the Maine College of Art and a Paralegal Certificate from UC Berkeley Extension. She lives in Berkeley, California, and enjoys painting, cooking, and spending summer days at the Yuba River.
