News: Advancing Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing in Oklahoma

October 2025 — This fall, For The People joined Right On Crime, CPAC and Unify.us at the Oklahoma State Capitol to brief lawmakers on Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing (PIR) — a bipartisan reform that strengthens public safety while ensuring a fairer justice system.

On October 21, our CEO Hillary Blout testified at the Oklahoma House Interim Study, organized by Republican Speaker Pro Tempore Anthony Moore. The study featured supportive testimony from the Oklahoma District Attorneys Council, the DA from rural Comanche County, Right On Crime, CPAC, and Unify.us.

We shared key lessons from PIR implementation across the country, highlighting how the policy has safely reduced incarceration, supported rehabilitation, led to cost savings, and created pathways to accountability.

By the end of the hearing, the Committee announced its commitment to introduce PIR legislation for the 2026 legislative session — a promising step toward giving Oklahoma prosecutors the tools to review outdated sentences and bring people home safely.
