Shakinah Douglas

STAFF ATTORNEY

Shakinah Douglas is a Staff Attorney at For The People, where she supports the legal team’s work of implementing Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing by collaborating with prosecutors and key stakeholders to safely release people from prison.

Shakinah has been a committed public servant her entire legal career. Prior to joining For The People, Shakinah served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Washington, D.C. where she investigated, indicted, and prosecuted violent crimes for over five years. Before that, she began her prosecutorial career serving as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County, Maryland after serving as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Herman C. Dawson in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, Maryland.

She earned her B.A. from UCLA in Political Science and African American Studies with a minor in Public Affairs, and her J.D. from the Howard University School of Law.

In her spare time, Shakinah enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time with her family.
