Kad Smith

training & technical assistance lead

Kad Smith is the Training & Technical Assistance Lead at For The People, where he is responsible for designing and delivering training, developing tools and resources, and serving as a strategic partner to prosecutor offices that are building or strengthening their internal Prosecutor-Initiated Resentencing infrastructure. 

Prior to For The People, Kad served as a Project Director at CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, where he designed and facilitated leadership development programs, including the Next Generation Leaders of Color Inland Region and the Organizational Equity Leadership Development Program. In this role, he helped nonprofit leaders across the country navigate complex change, advance equity-centered practices, and expand their organizational capacity.

Kad currently serves as the Vice Chair of Greenpeace USA. He has previously served on the Board of Directors of the Berkeley Community Scholars, The Ecology Center and the Berkeley Democratic Club. His civic service also includes appointments to the City of Berkeley’s Police Review Commission and Community Health Commission. 

Kad holds a Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law and a Bachelor’s in Politics from the University of San Francisco.
